It's A Patience Game Now

November 28, 2025

The cold front came through and it looks like it'll be sticking around for awhile. We are still running trips but it's become a day by day game depending on weather and river conditions. If the cold sticks around for awhile, don't be surprised if you start to see some ice forming on area rivers and the lower sections starting to lock up.

The rivers have bumped a little from the recent rain and that's helped to shuffle the deck and push some fresh steelhead into area systems.

With that said, both the swing game and the indicator fishing have been producing for us. On the swing side try using Halloween Leach patterns with orange and chartreuse heads or a Dirty Bird Sculpin pattern, with added flash. Given how low the rivers continue to be, we are using T-8 or T-11 tips off of floating line.

If you're going to float indicators, try using milked out eggs colors and start to make multiple drifts over holes where you see the current moving at a "walking pace." These fish are going to start to get settle into the deeper holes and are become more sluggish from the cold. Be patient, making multiple drifts and consistently switching out your egg patterns until you find what they want.

I have been fishing many, many years. I have hired many guides in many different places. There are a few guides that rise to the top. Tom Werkman is one of those guides. I got onto his Stealthcraft inflatable and spent 8 hours with a man I had never met. You never know. Well, I would like to say that Tom gave me one of the best float trips I have done. Tom is hard working, great conversationalist, easy going and great at giving little tips on technique. If you want a great day on the water, book a trip with Werkman Outfitters.
